UPS to use RFID to replace 20million Barcode Scans of packages per Day
UPS are placing RFID tags on packages and wearable RFID scanners on employees to eliminate per package barcode scans, reduce misloads and accelerate parcel throughput in the delivery giant’s 900+warehouses.
UPS CEO Carol Tomé has previously said that the use of RFID tags and wearable RFID devices will eliminate 20 million manual scans daily for the employees loading UPS package cars.
This will improve staff efficiency and reduce misloads down to one misload per one thousand packages.
RFID bulk scanning of 100s of packages per second is significant more efficient than individually barcode scanning every package onto a truck, as NZ couriers do. RFID scanning is faster, more accurate, and easier on the RFID Scanning hardware as RFID scanners don't do 1000s of scan trigger pulls per day.
